Rachel Melchers is an Australian contemporary artist creating bold, expressive abstract landscape paintings that capture the emotional and sensory experience of nature. Known for her vibrant use of colour, layered textures, and intuitive mark-making, Rachel’s original artworks bring movement, energy, and atmosphere into any space.
Working from her studio in Mudgee, NSW, Rachel is inspired by the rolling hills and open skies of the surrounding countryside, as well as the coastal landscapes of Newcastle where she grew up. These natural environments, rich with personal connection, serve as the foundation for her abstracted interpretations of place and memory.
Her paintings are created using oil paint, oil stick and other mediums, with surfaces built up in layers of transparent washes, bold opaque strokes, and expressive textures. Each piece is unique, often incorporating collaged fabrics, scraping, and mark-making techniques that reveal the depth of the work beneath the surface.
Rachel’s intuitive process allows the artwork to unfold naturally, guided by emotion and memory rather than strict representation. The result is a striking collection of original abstract landscape art that speaks to collectors seeking one-of-a-kind, handmade pieces with soul.
Rachel holds a Visual Arts degree from the University of Newcastle and has exhibited in solo and group shows across Australia. Her work has been recognised in multiple art awards and is held in private collections both locally and internationally.
