Esteemed textile artist Pippita Bennett will guide you through the process of making your own stitched landscape vessel. You will gain insight into how she creates her textile landscapes. These beautiful objects are built around a glass jar and can be used to hold flowers or treasures.
Spending most of her time living and working on a cattle property in Texas, Qld, Jane Henry uses her rural surroundings as a constant inspiration for her creative artworks.
A mostly self-taught artist who enjoys blending various mediums, recently including her own individual style of fibre art. She is constantly extending the capabilities of hand stitching on archival paper with foraged natural fibres and objects creating extremely unique artworks.
These recent intricate botanical creations combine Jane’s love of Australian native flora as well as paying homage to her mother & grandmothers who passed down the skill and appreciation of slow needlework.
Learn how to make your very own textile landscape artwork with artist Pippita Bennett. You will create your own canvas mounted stitched landscape using naturally dyed and thrifted fabric. You will also learn different embroidery stitches and experience the meditative and restorative quality of working with textiles. You will enjoy a light antipasto platter and bubbles on the Sunday, and afternoon tea on the Saturday. It’s about connecting, chatting and playing with stitch with an intimate group of people in the beautiful space of The Corner Store Gallery.
Karlie Simring is an artist and designer based in Inner Sydney on Gadigal Land. Holding a Bachelor of Fashion and Textile Design, Karlie has enjoyed a creative career as a Senior and Head designer in the fashion industry for more than 25 years. Her early education also included a year at the National Art School. More recently, Karlie has explored various creative mediums, including watercolour, ceramics, basketry & weaving. Now an emerging artist, she creates contemporary textiles, focusing on surface embroidery. Art and design are Karlie’s guiding passions, with the world of textiles continually inspiring her process. Drawing from her experience in fashion, she infuses her work with a considered sense of colour, form and detail. Karlie’s process is intuitive, as she explores and observes her surroundings. Her art is an interplay of line, texture and tone, creating stories with a deep appreciation for materiality and tactility. Mark making with thread, brings the viewer into her inner world.
Pippita Bennett creates stitched landscapes of places lived in and visited. Her home on Dharug and Gundungurra country is the source of her practice; she uses leaves, bark and flowers from her surrounds and the wild places she travels to dye the threads and textiles she works with, gathering extra inspiration from thrifted materials. Her dyed fabrics are soaked with the memory of the place they were dyed; similarly thrifted fabric holds memory of its past use.
Our artists have a compelling material culture producing works of deep ritual and spiritual significance and are authentic in their connection to Yolngu (people) and their true nature and beliefs. The artworks contain meaningfulness about sophisticated and complex social structures: such as ceremonies, songs, language, creation beings, family and the Yolngu identity within, as well as the relationships between all things: such as animals, plants, birds, trees, fish and water.

SURFACE is a group exhibition curated by Gallery Director Madeline Young-Holborow featuring the work of 5 female artists from across Australia. Each artist explores unique and uncommon artistic mediums within their contemporary practice. Working across many different materials such as paper, metal, fibre and wood, these artists share their common curiosity of form, tactility and SURFACE.
Yan, Tan, Tethera is a joint exhibition from Hannah Orrock and Maria Shaw which explores the symbolism of animals in dreams. In this exhibition we look to develop a playful dialog between the observed (the animals captured within the dream) and the observer (audience).
Designer Sally Campbell collaborates with top artisans in India to create her contemporary range of homewares. Her textiles includes quilts, throws, cushions, tableware, towels and scarves. All are handmade, many use natural dyes. She also collects vintage fabrics, then remodels them into cushions and quilts.
Orange Moss is a mixture of hand-embroidered one-off pieces and comfortable ready-to-wear offerings, we hope to inspire confidence in all who wear our range. The source photography will be from Orange and the surrounding areas. All items are printed and manufactured in Australia in partnership with a variety of ethical producers and makers
Threaded showcases the work of Tracy Dickason, an emerging artist based in Northern Sydney. Her artistic practice is a combination of porcelain ceramics and mixed media contemporary illustration and painting on paper and canvas.
Olivia Henry is a graphic, fabric and surface pattern designer currently based in Brisbane Australia.
Works on Paper is a group exhibition in which selected artists will exhibit original artworks of any medium on paper, or that involve paper in some way. They must measure 8x10 inches.
Lily works intuitively, letting the mediums and materials take over the artwork. Her work ranges from 2D and 3D art through to installation pieces. She draws her inspiration from people’s interactions with one another, sentences, phrases and gestures shape her ideas. “I like to take on the role of the observer in temporary communities of strangers.”
