Our extremely popular Art Prize INSIDE THIS BOX is back for another! Thanks to our friends at Whiteley Ironside & Shillington Solicitors AND De Salis Wines in Orange, there will be two prizes up for grabs: the overall winner, selected by Gallery Director Madeline Young, will receive $1000 in cash sponsored by Whiteley Ironside and Shillington Solicitors. There will also be a People’s Choice Award with voters choosing their favourite work announced at the close of the exhibition, the winner will receive a Magnum of 2021 Lofty Pinot Noir from De Salis Wines.

How does exploring a new place make you feel ? Do you find yourself taking note of the differences in landscape, mentally jotting down the colours and shapes?

Recently I’ve been lucky enough to experience some travel and found myself taking note of these changes unable to quiet my mind until I’ve brought those new colours and compositions to the canvas.

‘Field Notes’ celebrates finding beauty in the things that surround us…whether that be noticing the new colours with the changing of seasons or taking note of the beautiful shapes from little flowers in our very own backyards.

My hope for this exhibit is that it will bring joy to each viewer and reason to take note of the beauty within colours and shadows of our everyday surrounds.

Gallery Director Madeline Young-Holborow sets up a working studio practice in the gallery space for 2 weeks. See her abstract paintings come to life, from landscape photographs through to sketches and the final oil painting.

Madeline Young has a lot of art, jewellery, and other handmade goodes she'd like to move along!  Years of making have somewhat "clogged up" her studio and it's well and truly time for a "garage sale"!!!

In creating my illustrations, I love using water colours, as its wonderful texture conveys a dreamlike quality that I want my artworks to exude. When making objects & accessories, I am drawn towards natural materials such as textiles, wood, and leather – Jacqueline Chan.

I have always been fascinated by homes and how the people living in them choose to add individual touches for comfort and pleasure.  I paint scenes that invite the viewer to step inside, perhaps take a seat or just smell the flowers - Josephine Jagger Manners.

Jaq Davies works across many different artistic mediums such as painting, drawing and sculpture often combining mixed media materials and found objects in the artworks.  Jaq’s subject matter references the landscape and her place within it.

Lily works intuitively, letting the mediums and materials take over the artwork. Her work ranges from 2D and 3D art through to installation pieces. She draws her inspiration from people’s interactions with one another, sentences, phrases and gestures shape her ideas. “I like to take on the role of the observer in temporary communities of strangers.”
