Online Sales Launch: 7pm April 27th
Emma Sutherland is a contemporary abstract artist whose work captures the energy and essence of Australian landscapes through soft, colourful, and expressive compositions. Her paintings bridge the sensory experience of being immersed in nature with a modern abstract representation, using gestural brushstrokes, delicate mark-making, and a carefully considered colour palette.
Inspired by the ever-changing beauty of the natural environment, Emma’s work invites viewers to reconnect with their surroundings on both a sensory and emotional level. Her abstract paintings convey the rhythm and movement of the land, where lines evoke emotion, colours reflect intimate observations, and textures capture the energy of place.
With a background in contemporary painting, Emma’s artistic practice has evolved from years of personal study into a dedicated pursuit. She continues to refine her techniques through painting expeditions, art workshops, and masterclasses, constantly pushing the boundaries of her abstract landscape paintings.
Emma’s work is perfect for collectors and art lovers seeking original abstract paintings that evoke a deep connection to nature.

Every year, I take my small children camping in Woollamia, a stretch of bushland on the NSW South Coast. The air is clean and warm, crisp by evening, carrying the scent of earth, blossoms, and salty mangroves.
Time slows here. My kids run wild.
I watch the shifting clouds, the tides in the mangroves, the ocean, the tea-tree creeks. Light streaming through trees after rain, birds in evening chaos, ochre crabs scuttling in the clay at dawn.
I paint the colours, the movement—the salty crabs, the mangrove roots, the river at dusk. Dappled light on leaves as the day fades.
My paintings are landscapes, abstractions, memories. Floods of colour, scrubby brushstrokes, layered marks. I limit myself to seven colours—blended into endless tones—to structure my visual memories.
